1xBet Loses British License; Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Terminates Their Partnership

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has terminated their partnership with 1xBet. The termination was caused by 1xBet losing the license to operate in Britain.

The operator has been pressured to block the access to their website in the United Kingdom due to the numerous accusations of regulation breeches, among which are taking bets on children’s sports and advertising on websites operating illegally.

Aside from Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea have also chosen to partner up with the operator and have been ed by The Gambling Commission, who warned them promoting the company could be a breach of the United Kingdom’s law, which means that it could bring endless fines and even prison time.

“We recently wrote to Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC to remind them that organizations engaging in sponsorship, and associated advertising arrangements, with an unlicensed operator may be liable to prosecution for the offence of advertising unlawful gambling,” the Gambling Commission stated.

Management of 1xBet says that it takes the allegations of promoting the brand on prohibited sites very seriously and that such promotions are strictly against their policies. Management further stated they are launching an investigation and that it is responsible to temporarily suspend their advertising activity in the UK.

According to White Bullet Solutions, a London monitoring firm, 1xBet had d their services on nearly 4000 websites that contain illegal content, which is against the law in the United Kingdom.

“It is shocking that these football clubs failed to do the most basic due diligence checks on 1xBet before g up for these multimillion-pound deals. It’s an absolute debacle,” Matt Zarb-Cousin of the Campaign for Fairer Gambling, said.

In mid-August, the Sunday Times accused 1xBet of irresponsible behavior, namely targeting audience on sites prohibited for gambling marketing.
