National Council on Problem Gambling Announces the Appointment of New Vice President

An advocacy organization for people and their families who are affected by problem gambling and gambling addiction, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NG), is proud to announce a significant reinforcement to its team. Following the resignation of Chelsea Turner, Raquel Buari ed the board to fill the Organizational vacated position.

The Council is neutral on legalized gambling and cooperates with all stakeholders to raise awareness and promote responsible gambling. tly, the Board represents all NG organizational, individual, and .

Commenting on the new duty, Raquel declared:

“I look forward to continuing to contribute to the NG by bringing forward my experience with Tribal Gaming, law and regulation particularly in regard to casino operators. I’m keenly interested in how operators can continue to effectively improve their initiatives, policies, and procedures for guests who are experiencing problems with gambling.”

Highly-Experienced Professional

Raquel will be on the position for the remainder of the term through July 2022. She served the NG Planning Committee for the Tribal Summit on Responsible Gaming and the Awards Committee.

…she’s an active Board member for both the Michigan Association on Problem Gambling and the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling. Raquel is a graduate of Ball State University and Valparaiso University School of Law.

Raquel is also the Vice President of Compliance for Four Winds Casinos, owned and operated by the Pokagon Band. She began with Four Winds in 2009 and since 2014 has led the compliance team, which includes responsible gambling efforts.

More New Reinforcements

Besides Raquel, the Council is also excited to announce the election of Stacy Shaw to the office of Vice President. Serving in an Organizational seat for the Oregon Lottery, Stacey brings decades of experience to the organization. She provides award-winning leadership and strategic direction for the Lottery’s CSR initiative, including responsible gambling and problem gambling programs.

Keith Whyte, Executive Director of NG pointed out:

“NG is honored to have leaders like Raquel and Stacy. Their perspectives and experiences will be invaluable in helping to guide our organization through these difficult times.”

More Measures for Improved Protection

The Council also placed a special focus on payment providers, wanting to create a safer and more responsible environment and minimize gambling-caused harms. In a set of guidelines introduced in February, NG aimed to motivate all companies to come up with as many solutions as possible to tackle this burning issue.

…a month dedicated to raising the awareness of problem gambling, the Council ed forces with the NY State Gaming Commission. Under the theme Awareness + Action,’ it was concluded that it’s necessary to take action, communicate with players to recognize the problem as soon as possible and direct them to seek help.
