The Betting and Gaming Council has just announced that problem and at-risk gambling rates are decreasing. Following the trend, the organization promotes the further reduction of the rates and raising public awareness regarding the situation.
The UK Gambling Commission has recently conducted a survey related to problem gambling and the overall behavior of gamblers. The report displays that the problem gambling rate in 2020 was 0.3 % – down from 0.6 per cent in 2019. The fall of the rate is not significant, but it nevertheless points out the Betting and Gaming Council’s excellent work in promoting safer gambling.
The recent study has also shown that the rate of gamblers with a moderate risk of harm has also been reduced from 1.2 % to 0.9 % between 2019 and 2020. As for the gamblers with the low risk, the rates showed a “significant fall” from 2.7% to 2.0% over the same timeframe.
Based on the Government statement, the problem gambling rate stands at 0.5 per cent and remains stable for almost 20 years. The UK study was based on the examination of 4,007 UK adults between March and December 2020.
The previous numbers are very positive, and the same opinion is shared by Wes Himes, the executive director for standards and innovation at BGC.
He expressed an opinion on the initiative:
“Since being established in 2019, we have worked tirelessly to drive up standards in the regulated betting and gaming industry and promote safer gambling.
“Our initiatives have included encouraging deposit limits, investing more in research, education and treatment, and introducing tough new rules on VIP schemes and game design.
Wes Himes mentioned that the gambling community should keep up the momentum in the following months. This will lead to a sustainable and safe gaming environment for millions of customers around the world.
