New Jersey Online Gambling Win Total Rises 24.9%

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) has reported that the total gaming win in 2017 was $245.6m, which is a whopping 24.9% leap compared to the year before – a new state record and the highest yearly total since the legalization of online gambling in New Jersey in November 2013. The growth is apparent across the wide gambling market – casino win totaled $2.4bn in 2017, for a rise of 0.3%. The overall gaming win (online and land-based) in the state in 2017 was $2.66bn – an increase of 2.2% over 2016.

The final month of the year was quite shaky in: online gambling soared for about 12.9% more compared to the year before while casinos’ total win plummeted by 1.8% – however, that didn’t affect the final annual growth. As a result, the total gaming win in December was quite similar to 2016’s: $208.1m compared to $207m.

Also, in November of last year, it was revealed that ever since online gambling was regulated in the state, it generated a total of $682.6m of gaming revenue. The main source of income in the state are online casino games which generated 85% of the amount. Online poker revenue was $103.1 million during this four year period, while an additional $119.3 million was collected via gambling taxation.

Commenting on this, PlayNJ.com analyst, Steve Ruddock, stated: “Four years of data shows us the incredible potential of legal online gaming. Online play has increased the revenues and customer bases of New Jersey’s land-based casino operators, and the residents of New Jersey have benefited from being able to safely gamble online at regulated sites that protect their financial information, offer fair games, and promote responsible play.”
