US Sports Betting Will Boost Viewership

Legalizing sports betting in the United States will have a major influence on everyone involved. Not only will it bring revenue to the casinos, but the states will also be able to collect the money through taxes and therefore use it to improve something they consider important.

Furthermore, professional sports leagues are expected to benefit as well. Namely, the Seton Hall Sports Poll shows that…

70% of American are more likely to watch the games they bet on!

Even if the survey is moderately off, the increase is inevitable; and that is great news for the sports leagues and the broadcasters.

On the other hand, 27% of people that were surveyed at the end of November said that they wouldn’t be more inclined to watch a game if they placed a bet on it.

Those between 18 and 29 years old are the ones interested in watching the game while betting on them. Almost nine out of ten people responded that they would like to see the match they betted on.

Did you know?

Seton Hall Sports Poll Director Rick Gentile explained: “Watching is the first step towards creating a paying fan… In the 1980s, the leagues became aware that fantasy sports were heightening interest, and eventually, they embraced it. Now they appear to be ‘all in’ with something once impossible to imagine.”

The Seton Hall Sports poll also discovered that only 3% of American have ever wagered money on a daily fantasy website. Furthermore, around 40% agreed with…

…the decision of the US Supreme Court to allow the states to determine the legality of sports betting individually…

The difference between the sexes is large, but also expected as men are generally more interested in sports gambling. That is why over one half of men was in favor of the May ruling whereas this was ed by “only” 28% of women. Last but not least it is fair to say that 44 percent didn’t know or had no opinion on the topic.

Further Results

A small majority believed that legalizing sports betting would have negative activities such as cheating and game fixing but around one third said that would not be the case. It is up to the leagues to prevent shady action, while gambling operators are doing their part.

As for the leagues which will be influenced by the legalization, around 35% of people want to make sports wagering available only for professional sports, whereas 42%….

…agrees that both professional and college sports wagering should be introduced!

A total of 32% said that they would be more inclined towards betting in case it was legalized in their states, whereas two thirds would not be attracted to sports wagering no matter what their state decided.

More States

Currently, seven states have made this form of betting legal, while the others are just getting started. Sports betting is estimated to bring heaps of money to the states, some of which, such as Missouri, are trying to catch up with the initial states that regulated this form of gambling.
