Thunderkick Partners with LeoVegas and PokerStars for Ontario Launch

Changes are in the works for Amaya. The PokerStars owner previously announced its proposal to rebrand as ‘The Stars Group Inc.’ and relocate to Toronto earlier this year. The plans were in the hands of the shareholders and they’ve just given the green light.
Staff will begin relocation to Toronto in July and should be all settled in by August. Was the decision to rebrand the final move away from founder and former CEO, David Baazov? There has been speculation surrounding the announcement, but new CEO Rafi Ashkenazi reportedly assured this is not the case and the Amaya reputation remains intact. To refresh your memory, Baazov stepped down in August 2016 after facing charges of insider trading.
In its corporate news, Amaya published the following:
“The proposed corporate name change to “The Stars Group Inc.” and continuance under the Business Corporations Act (Ontario) pursuant to which Amaya will become an Ontario corporation, inclusive of the adoption of the articles of continuance and the new by-laws of Amaya under such act, were each approved. Amaya currently expects that the name change, continuance, and previously announced head office move to Toronto will be completed by the end of August 2017.”
Earlier this month, Jerry Bowskill signed on as Chief Technology Officer of Amaya. During his career, he’s had ties to Playtech and Scientific Games.
While the rebranding process won’t affect the PokerStars brand, the company has its eye on India and its online poker market, or lack thereof.
