Betfair Becomes Official Partner of South American Football Confederation's Club Competitions

South American Football Organization (CONMEBOL) has found the official betting partner in Betfair. South America’s football competitions of the highest order will thus claim benefits from teaming up with the Flutter Entertainment-owned brand.

They are ing names such as Bridgestone, Qatar Airways and Mastercard in becoming sponsor partners of Latin America’s most esteemed club competitions such as Copa Libertadores (a LatAm counterpart of Europe’s Champions League) and CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

Making More Memorable Moments Together

The deal between two sides has been signed until 2022…

…and thanks to of the agreement, Betfair will be gaining a whole new level of exposure on this continent via stadium branding, broadcast and digital assets. As Betfair’s brand director, Stephen Mault remarks:

“We are delighted to be the official betting partner of the CONMEBOL Libertadores and CONMEBOL Sudamericana. These two prestigious tournaments have provided so many memorable moments in world football throughout the ages and we are very proud to be ing the action for the next three years. We look forward to seeing how the rest of this year’s tournaments unfold.”

Being at the Right Place at the Right Time

In their yearly report published late last year, Betfair – which belongs to the recently renamed Flutter Entertainment – it was said that the company has an estimated 2% share of the Brazilian market which was deemed “world’s most significant gray market.”

Juan Emilio Roa, CONMEBOL’s commercial director, was also happy about this agreement:

“We are pleased to present Betfair as a partner of the CONMEBOL Libertadores and CONMEBOL Sudamericana. With this important partnership, we add another global brand to the international status of South American football.”

Brazil Rolls Out Sports Betting:

The government of Brazil has recently launched a public debate on the legalization of sports betting that should run for a month.

Lawmakers of Brazil are creating the legal framework for this gambling vertical’s launch. The talks are due to end on August 31st.

During these discussions, respondents will be answering such hot topic issues such as limiting the number of licenses to operators or not, looking at other countries’ regulatory regimes that Brazil can look up to, views on control and monitoring etc.

Secretary of Public Policy Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery Alexandre Manoel remarked that Ministry understood that the proposed regulation contributes to the integrity of the sport and that all games will be reliable and resulting from athletes’ efforts.

ASA Warns Betfair

Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) found Paddy Power Betfair to be in breach of regulations that forbid gambling operators for advertising on apps and channels that are intended for underage audience.

Betfair defended itself, saying that measures for preventing exposure to minors were in place and that they went to “great lengths to make sure they their customers properly.”

However, ASA still ruled that the ad was not appropriately placed and has issued the official warning to the operator before enforcing any specific financial measures.
