Betfred Voids £1.7M Jackpot; Faces Legal Action

Andrew Green, a 52-year-old from North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, Great Britain won a jackpot with Betfred…

but the bookmaker is refusing to pay him out!

He was playing blackjack and the jackpot was marked in January this year. Now, he is taking legal action against the company in an attempt to get the reward he won fair and square.

Mistake after Mistake

Green said that he confirmed the win with this firm, but his happiness lasted only for a few days. He received a notification a few days later…

….saying that there had been a mistake

According to Betfred, “no legitimate jackpot win occurred” due to a “software malfunction.” That’s what left Green high and dry.

In the meantime, Andrew Green was celebrating with his family. He also extended his overdraft almost immediately after a win and he spent more than £1,000 while having a good time with his close ones. The celebrations lasted for days and he couldn’t restrain his happiness.

“I went absolutely crazy,” he clarified.

And who wouldn’t? However, a phone call would change his life for worse only after he thought that he has become a millionaire. It was from Betfred’s head office and the officials told him that the win was a void.

“It felt like I had been kicked and had my insides ripped out,” he explained. “Even if there was a malfunction that is not my fault – all I could do was press a button.” So, what happens next?

Legal Action

Before hitting a jackpot, Green played the game for six hours. Even though he has been informed about the void…

…the bookmaker refused to provide any evidence of the bug, confirms Peter Coyle, his solicitor.

To make matters worse, they requested for evidence more than once, but the spokesperson of Betfred had only this to say: “Betfred loves to pay out all our jackpot winners – both big and small.”

They also added: “Unfortunately, and as Mr Green is aware, a new game release… suffered a software malfunction in January this year and no legitimate jackpot win occurred.”

“Given that Mr Green is currently exploring his legal options, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further,” finished the spokesperson of Betfred.

At the beginning of the week, a preliminary hearing was held in the High Court. The case will continue.

Betfred Discussing Ad Restrictions

Changes in the gambling industry happen quite often…

…but the new announcement that came from the Remote Gambling Association regarding advertising restrictions is quite serious!

Betfred is one of the and together with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Bet 365 and William Hill, and they will discuss a new advertising code, focusing on commercials during live Sky matches.

Usually, the board meets annually, but this issue is quite complex and it will have higher priority compared to some other gaming changes in Great Britain.

And while Betfred tries to cross these obstacles, people are becoming skeptic towards this company, which reputation could be seriously tainted in case the trial takes place and they turn out to be wrong.
