Floyd Mayweather rumored to have won $7m NBA Bet

With a 46-0 boxing record, Floyd Mayweather is a guy who’s used to winning. This also goes for his sports betting hobby, where he’s previously tweeted winning slips worth 7-figures. And now the big question on many people’s minds is if Mayweather recently won a $7 million bet.

As first reported by Vegas Gambling Steam, Mayweather laid $5 million down on the San Antonio Spurs to cover a -6 spread against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Seeing as how the Spurs completely annihilated the Thunder 112-77, “Money” would’ve easily won his wager. But wait, there’s more as Vegas Gambling Steam also tweeted this:

Heard from a big gambler in Costa Rica that Floyd actually bet 7 million on this game (2 mill 1st half spurs)

Okay, so a tweet full of third-hand gossip isn’t exactly a 100% legitimate source. However, if true, this would be an amazing haul for Mayweather that’d put him among the sports betting greats like Billy Walters.

But why wouldn’t Money just tweet the win himself? After all, he’s had no trouble in the past bragging about his huge NFL, college football and college basketball wins.

On the other hand, Mayweather is making a bid to buy the Los Angeles Clippers, a franchise that’ll likely go on the market if/when owner Donald Sterling is ousted for his racist comments. So any whiff that he’s making 7-figure wagers on the NBA Playoffs and it could take him out of the running for buying the Clippers. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s keeping the win a secret, assuming it actually happened.

Moving past the rumors, Mayweather is probably relaxing after his latest boxing victory over Argentina’s Marcos Maidana. Money won a majority decision back on May 3rd, 2014, which gave him Maidana’s WBA Welterweight title. Additionally, Mayweather retained his WBC and The Ring Welterweight titles.

So what’s next for the boxing legend? Retire and keep winning giant sports bets? He’s not ready to hang up the gloves yet and has set a date for September 13th for his next bout. The only mystery right now is who the opponent will be. English Junior Welterweight title holder Amir Khan’s name has been thrown around a lot. However, he doesn’t want to fight in September because of religious reasons. So Khan will either have to make an exception or Mayweather will keep searching for opponents.
