GambleAware Gets $13.5m in Donations

GambleAware, the organization that promotes and assists all facets of responsible gambling, has declared that they’ve received the record-breaking amount of $13.5 million in donation money during the past year.

The group works as a charity whose main objective is to minimize the harm and suffering caused by excessive gambling. They provide info on online and land betting options that could help alleviate this – their logo and link is found on most of the UK-licensed betting sites. Although the new record in donations is set, the group did not meet the expected goal which was slightly over the final amount.

Marc Etches, the organization’s CEO, comments: “In Great Britain, it is estimated that 430,000 people have a gambling problem and another two million are at risk of developing one. This is a public health issue that requires all organizations that have an interest to step up to the plate in the next 12 months to work positively and collaboratively to help reduce gambling-related harms, so we are looking beyond licence-holders for further sources of income and . Less than 2% of ‘problem gamblers’ are receiving treatment, representing a significant gap in services.”

He went on to add that almost half a million 11 to 15-year-old children in England and Wales are gambling on a weekly basis and that nearly two million adults are at risk. This constitutes a huge need for “significant investment in education and harm-prevention activity,” Etches concluded.
