Genesis Global and Aspire Global Penalty Fees to be Reduced

The penalty fees that have been issued to Genesis Global and Aspire Global for breaching self-exclusion regulations are to be reduced, as Sweden’s istrative Court has ruled.

Spelinspektionen, the gambling regulator in Sweden, issued an order to Genesis to pay a penalty of SEK4m ($382,757) in March and to Aspire a penalty of SEK3m in April, related to its AG Communications Sweden subsidiary. The new laws that came into effect on January 1 state that all licensed operators in Sweden are required to integrate with Spelpaus.se self exclusion system, and both of the aforementioned companies failed to do so.

The regulator stated that both companies, holding a license in the country, failed to comply with the rules of self-exclusion. Some of the consumers that had self-excluded said that they were able to gamble on sites operated by Genesis, Aspire and AG Communications cited issues with integrating with Spelpaus.se as the reason for them not complying with the rules.

The istrative Court of Sweden, agreeing with the regulator, said that both of the operators should face punishment, hence Spelinspektionen issued warnings and penalty fees. Also, the Court agreed with the decision to calculate the penalty fee based on each of the operator’s gross turnover, before paid profits…

…however, the Court estimated that the Genesis and Aspire’s turnover was lower than the regulator had calculated and due to the new calculations, decided that the fees should be reduced.
