The state of Georgia Senate has approved a new resolution that was established in order to make a new state committee…
…and which would study all the potential opportunities to regulate betting, gaming and horse racing in the state.
After the state Senate ed and approved the Senate Resolution 367 and after its third reading, the Gaming and Pari-mutuel Wagering on Horse Racing and Growing Georgia’s Equine Industry Study Committee was created.
This new Georgia committee has been established with intentions to access the condition, needs, issues and problems that have or might arise…
…from various key issues that are in correlation with gambling and horse racing in this US state.
The main issue that has to be studied is the potential establishment of land-based casinos in Georgia. Since the residents of this state regularly travel to Nevada, Mississippi, North Carolina and New Jersey in order to place their bets, it seems obvious that it is the main issue that has to be addressed.
So, the first task of this new committee would be to determine if introducing legal gambling in this state would lead to major tax revenue.
Furthermore, the committee will have to look at all the pros and cons of introducing legal horse racing and also pari-mutuel wagering…
…especially all the potential benefits coming from the tax revenue, as well as the impact that this form of gambling would have on Georgia’s horse breeding, raising and training industry.
The committee will be consisted of 11 , including the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, alongside the Senate majority leader, majority whip and majority caucus chair.
Also, the chairs of the Senate Economic Development and Tourism and Regulated Industries and Utilities committees will also be ing the new Georgia Senate committee.
In the end, the chief executive of the Georgia Lottery Corporation or an individual designated to sit in their place will also be ing this committee.
This new resolution that established the new committee officially ed on April 2, which was the last day of the state of Georgia’s 2019 legislative session.
Since the of the committee are yet to be confirmed, the lawmakers will have until December 1 of 2019, to finalize their research and report about the issues…
…including suggestions about the legislative, after which the committee will be abolished.
Previously during the legislative session of 2019, House Resolution 380 was filed in order to give the Georgia General Assembly the power needed to establish a gaming facilities framework.
That way, they would be able to apply for a license to offer sports betting services in this state. The proposal is with the House Committee on Regulated Industries at the moment and will be scrutinized furthermore.
