High5Games’ License Suspended Over Illegal Online Gambling in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection’s (D) Gaming Division has indefinitely suspended the gaming license of High5Games, a well-known online gaming service provider, after discovering the company was facilitating unauthorized gambling activities issuing Summary Suspension Order. Authorities found that High5Games was running High5Casino, an unlicensed online casino, misleading players into believing it was a legally sanctioned platform.

Investigation Uncovers Unlicensed Operations

High5Games, a provider of online slot games to major licensed platforms such as FanDuel and DraftKings, exceeded its legal authorization by establishing and promoting High5Casino. According to the Connecticut D’s statement, the company falsely marketed this platform as a legitimate gambling service, allowing Connecticut residents, including those enrolled in the Voluntary Self-Exclusion List, to place wagers unlawfully.

Regulators uncovered that 1,100 players deposited funds into High5Casino, with 911 of them incurring losses amounting to $937,938. Alarmingly, among these players were 108 individuals who had voluntarily excluded themselves from gambling, yet they collectively lost nearly $300,000 due to the site’s misleading operations.

The repercussions for High5Games are substantial. The company faces 1,065 criminal counts of illegal gaming activity, with each charge classified as a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, the company could face penalties of up to one year in jail per charge and fines of up to $2,000 per count.

The D has also confirmed its commitment to securing restitution for players who were deceived into using High5Casino, ensuring affected consumers are compensated for their financial losses. D Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli praised the Gaming Division for holding the company able, stating, “It is essential that our license holders uphold a high standard of integrity. Unfortunately, High5Games exploited their position to deceive Connecticut’s consumers, contravening the trust placed in them by the state.”

Warning Against Illegal Gambling Platforms

State officials are using this case to remind consumers of the importance of gambling exclusively on licensed platforms. Connecticut currently authorizes only two online casinos—DraftKings, operating in partnership with Foxwoods Resort Casino, and FanDuel, d with Mohegan Sun.

D Gaming Division Director Kris Gilman expressed disappointment over High5Games’ actions and stressed the difficulty of recovering losses from illegal gambling sites. “Recovering losses from illegal platforms is a significant challenge,” Gilman stated. He urged consumers to only engage with legally approved platforms to protect their financial interests and ensure legal recourse in case of disputes.

In response to the suspension, all games provided by High5Games to licensed platforms like FanDuel and DraftKings are being removed immediately. This decisive action reinforces the state’s commitment to maintaining a secure and transparent gaming environment.
