Hollywood Casino Ready to Offer Sports Betting After Receiving Approval From the Maryland Gaming Commission

One of the US states with legalized sports betting is Maryland, where Governor Larry Hogan placed the first legal bet at MGM National Harbor in December this year.

Since then, this market has been constantly expanding across this state, as evidenced by the latest news. Namely, the Maryland Gaming Commission has given green light to Hollywood Casino to launch sports betting in Perryville. This decision approved the fifth bookmaker in the state where punters can enjoy sports betting.

The opening of this gambling section in Hollywood Casino was preceded by the launch of MGM National Harbor, Live! Casino, Horseshow, and Ocean Downs. All of them provided their customers with sports betting this month.

It should be noted that the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission gave the green light for sports betting to every property in November.

What Can You Find at the Casino?

At Hollywood Casino, located near the Delaware border, players can also encounter a fantastic selection of table games including poker, craps, roulette, and blackjack, but also 800 slot machines. However, if you get hungry during the game, you can try some of the fantastic dining options.b

For a long time, the inhabitants of this area fought for the introduction of this type of entertainment. Even in the 2020 elections, they had the opportunity to express their opinion and vote in order to approve this type of activity.

In the future, non-casino facilities should also introduce sportsbooks in Maryland. So far, there are a total of 17 of them, including Long Shot’s Riverboat and Greenmount Station.

Many states have approved this type of entertainment this year, and one of the main moves was pulled by Ohio Governor Mike Dewine who signed House Bill 29 into law.

State Senator Kirk Schuring expressed his opinion as well and he said: ”We want to get this up and running as soon as possible, but we’re building a whole new industry. We’re hoping it can be done sooner [than 2023].”

It is very important to note that the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC), which is part of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission (MLGCC), recently granted a sports betting license to 5 casinos. Among them were the brands Churchill Downs ’Ocean Downs Casino (Berlin), the MGM National Harbor (Oxon Hill), Caesars Entertainment’s Horseshoe Casino (Baltimore), Cordish Companies’ Live! Casino & Hotel (Hanover), as well as the Penn National’s Hollywood Casino (Perryville).
