Missouri Casinos Generate $164.7 Million in December 2024

Missouri’s riverboat casinos generated $164.7 million in revenue in December 2024, reflecting a 3% decline compared to the $168.9 million collected in December 2023. This data, released by the Missouri Gaming Commission, highlights a mixed performance across the state’s 13 casinos, with revenue gains and losses varying significantly among operators.

Four casinos reported increased revenue compared to December 2023, while three maintained their performance year-over-year. However, the remaining casinos experienced notable declines, contributing to the overall decrease.

Top Performers in December 2024

Leading the pack was Century Casino & Hotel Caruthersville, which achieved an impressive 18.6% year-over-year revenue growth. Earnings climbed from $23 million in December 2023 to $24.7 million last month. River City Casino Hotel followed with a 6% increase, generating $22.8 million compared to $21.5 million the previous year.

Hollywood Casino also saw positive results, reporting a 4.8% growth as revenues reached $22.3 million. Meanwhile, Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau recorded a modest 2.4% increase, earning $6.1 million in December. Additionally, Argosy Casino posted a slight 0.5% growth, bringing in $13.8 million compared to $13.7 million in December 2023.

Casinos Facing Declines

While several venues posted gains, others experienced significant losses. Mark Twain Casino recorded the sharpest drop, with revenues falling by 21% from $3.2 million in December 2023 to $2.5 million last month.

Other casinos reporting revenue declines included Isle of Capri Boonville Casino, Harrah’s Kansas City Hotel & Casino, Bally’s Kansas City Casino, Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles, St. Jo Frontier Casino, and Horseshoe St. Louis.

Despite the overall revenue dip, Bally’s remains focused on future growth. The company recently announced a partnership with Osage River Gaming and Convention to propose a new casino and hotel complex at the Lake of the Ozarks. This development aims to enhance the region’s entertainment offerings and contribute to the state’s gaming industry.

The sports betting within the state, discussions around iGaming regulation have gained momentum. Missouri residents currently access sports betting and iGaming platforms through external operators, creating a push for localized regulation to keep revenue within state borders.
