Spelinspektionen issued an internal investigation regarding the Spelpaus and decided to publish the official report.
The Swedish national gambling regulator revealed to the public that almost half of the people who applied for the self-exclusion are between the ages of 25 and 34.
So, it looks like young adults really don’t want to participate in the Swedish gambling market.
Also, the regulator revealed that more than 35,000 people applied to the in the past six months…
…and that 40% of those individuals who decided to self-exclude themselves from gambling fit into this age category.
It is interesting that in May alone, over 2,800 people signed up for Spelpaus, which was officially launched on January 1 together with the launch of the newly-regulated online gambling market.
This gives Swedish consumers the opportunity to completely block themselves from accessing licensed gambling websites and opt out of all sorts of gambling ads.
Players are required to with their BankID number, and are then blocked from accessing iGaming sites…
…while operators must remove all of their personal data from all marketing databases.
Spelpaus.se is effective in licensed online casinos, slot games, and lotteries, as well as land-based services, which includes retail stores and bingo halls.
Each person is able to self-exclude for one, three or six months, or until further notice.
Spelinspektionen has previously revealed that most of the ed people have self-excluded for an indefinite period of time, which is at least one year.
All licensed gambling operators in the country are required to integrate with Spelpaus.se as part of their license requirements.
The state regulator is serious about this and is issuing warnings to those who fail to do so. But, not only that, operators could also face hefty fines and risk having their licenses revoked.
A certain number of Swedish licensees have already been fined by Spelinspektionen because they failed to comply with their license conditions.
Genesis Gaming and Paf Consulting were penalized in the month of March after a number of consumers were still able to gamble on their websites, even though they had opted out.
Genesis was fined SEK4 million for violating the license conditions…
…and has already been warned about it by the regulator prior to receiving a financial penalty.
Genesis also said that it had integrated with the , but that the third party’s system actually failed to integrate with Spelpaus.se.
Paf Consulting, which is a subsidiary of the Åland Islands-based operator, was also fined with SEK100,000 for similar failures.
Back in April, Spelinspektionen also fined Aspire Global with SEK3 million for not respecting the rules.
In March, the istrative Court of Linköping ruled that Swedish gamblers cannot end self-exclusion periods early, proving how serious the regulators are.

Young adults probably opt out because they are really tempted to gamble and are addicted to the internet.
