Luxury resort and casino, Wynn Las Vegas, which is located on The Strip in Paradise, Nevada has announced faster completion of construction works on its convention and meeting center. The projected opening dates for this 430,000 square foot expansion of Wynn and Encore can be expected in February, a month earlier than previously published.
Chris Flatt, executive vice president of hotel sales explained that “the expansion seamlessly complements the existing space at Wynn and Encore, giving clients options to create memorable events.” Flatt also said “the architecture, design and spectacular views create an event experience unlike anything else in Las Vegas.”
Upon the completion, the property of Wynn Las Vegas will take up approximately 560,000 square feet, including a 20,000 square foot outdoor pavilion and four ballrooms.
Of course, the convention center will be powered by Wynn’s groundbreaking solar facility that can produce 45 million kilowatt-hours of green power per year and costed $40 million to develop.
Meanwhile, the state Gaming Control Board recommended Marylin Spiegel for licensing, who currently works as the president of Wynn Las Vegas LLC. Spiegel gave details about the north Strip property in front of a three-member board, confirming the addition of Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course to the property and a connector across Las Vegas Boulevard to Resorts World Las Vegas, due to open in 2020.
The course that sits on the former Desert Inn Golf Club is expected to open on October 11th, offering an exciting start of the season of PGA Tours.
“Encore is consistently a challenging footprint and so when Resorts World opens, I know I will see much more foot traffic and we’re putting into our capital plan to have some kind of crossover in of the street and when the Drew (formerly Fontainebleau) comes, that will add more.
I think we will be a net gainer rather than a net loser of our hotel guests, although as we know in Las Vegas, people go everywhere,” commented Spiegel.
The licensing recommendation of the Control Board in Nevada, who used this opportunity to question Spiegel about her mandate as president of the company from 2010 to 2013 is scheduled for Thursday, September 26th.
Spiegel had left the company in 2011 to serve as a member of the board under Caesars Entertainment but decided to return to Wynn after receiving an invitation from Matt Maddox, Wynn Resorts CEO. The appointment of Phil Satre was also one of the reasons for Spiegel to come back, since they worked together for years at Harrah’s Entertainment. Satre was licensed by the regulatory agency as Wynn director in August 2019.
At the meeting with Nevada regulators, Spiegel also said the following:
“I felt that I had left the Wynn in a good place on 2013 and coming back, I think that we have a clear-cut idea what we’re going to do now.
When I came back, it had much more to do with my personal desire to get back in the game.
Earlier this year, I had a confused workforce that lacked the confidence that the team had had when I left and my goal is to instill that confidence because I think all performance is improved when people are ready and willing and sure that they can perform. That is one of my key initiatives.”
The Gaming Control Board has also honored chief of the board’s Enforcement Division, Karl Bennison last Wednesday, who is retiring at the end of September.
