Penn National Soon to Get Satellite Casino on Pennsylvania Ground

Pennsylvania officials made the decision to allow expansion of state casinos within its territory. A new act will lead to the introduction of ten new casino venues. However, it is very difficult to find licensees for the new venue. Penn National is one of the successful applicants which has been approved for a new venue in the state which led to the opening of Morgantown. The venue is now ready to commence a new casino project.

Background of the Story

Penn National was approved to open the first venue this past March. Not long after this extension, the operator received another approval, and this time for Hollywood Casino York located on the site of York Galleria Mall. The approval was granted by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and the total worth of the project stands at $120 million. The brand-new casino venue will have a Category 4 license and include about 750 slots and 30 table chances.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Board authorized the Penn National application, which was surprising. The casino operator has been one of the leading candidates in the state as no one applied for a license within the auction period. One of the potential candidates, Mount Airy, was close to application this past month but its proposal was rejected.

Statement

Commenting on the approval, Penn National CEO, Timothy Wilmot said:

“We are very pleased with today’s unanimous approval by the PGCB and look forward to opening the doors at Hollywood Casino York as soon as possible,” adding, “The property will be ideally located to draw customers from south-central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, while also protecting our existing market share at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.”

The venue will come with numerous slots and table games. Additionally, the casino will offer a sportsbook, entertainment possibilities, restaurant, bar, and dedicated coffee house. The venue will deliver about 200 full-time positions and the construction of the project will last about a year.

Meanwhile, the opponents who take care of under-age traffic around the complex can rest assured about the future. By the opinion of Penn National’s Senior VP of Regional Operations, John Finamore, it would not be possible to access the complex from the mall.

He added:

“There won’t be an entrance from the mall into the casino. The only way to get into the property is through the porte-cochere entrance. There’s one entry point.”
