Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Slaps $242k in Fines on Two Online Hubs for Breaching Rules

The gambling community has been paying more and more attention and putting plenty of effort into establishing stricter rules. The sole purpose of this is to minimize the potential gambling harms which could result in addiction. Protecting the underage…

…from unnecessary exposure and forbidding them from gambling until they come of age is among the major focuses. Those who breach the rules are severely penalized, which is precisely what the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) did to two operators.

Allowing Minors To Gamble?!

One of the operators penalized was Sands Bethworks Gaming, LLC. Their Northampton County venue, Sands Casino Resort allowed underage gaming, which is why they were slapped with a US$120k fine. They received one more penalty for unfairly awarding free slot spins and it was…

…US$110k worth. Another establishment also breached the rule which states that minors are not permitted to gamble. It was Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington Country. Their operator, Washington Trotting Association, LLC, had to pay US$12.5k for violating the rule.

The imposed fines are more than proof that Pennsylvania wants to have as few issues caused by gambling as possible. Having opened its doors to all forms of gaming, with online to go live on July 15th, the state wants to put consumers’ protection as its top priority.

More Protection Globally

This is actually not the first time that PGCB slappped fines on venues acting unlawfully. As far as the reports from February go, the Board issued fines against two state operators. One of them which did not implement a tracking system for alcoholic drinks, while the other issue involved compromised decks. Pennsylvania is not the only state…

…penalizing establishments for disobeying the rules. There are many examples worldwide, such is the case with the Swedish market, which fined parlors for a fine to Casumo for targeting players from the Netherlands. Just to make it clear, all forms of gambling are currently forbidden in that country, which is why the venue was fined.

Pennsylvania Means Business

This has been quite a significant period for Pennsylvania. Besides officially accepting all types of gambling, they also reported a revenue surge for March. Compared to the turbulent numbers in January and February, the total March revenue…

…grew 183.5% month-on-month to $5.5m (£4.2m/€4.9m). Launching additional sportsbook venues during that month surely played quite a significant role in success. The predictions see the numbers growing in the future, particularly with web-based gaming to start operating soon.
