Pennsylvania's First iGaming Numbers Are Out, SugarHouse Leads the Way

During the first sixteen months of operations, Pennsylvania’s recently opened regulated iGaming market has generated $812,306 in revenue. Customers’ total handle was $49.2 million!

This total spending on a market that went live on July 15th was divided like this: $23.8 million was spent on slot games and $25.5m on table games. These are the figures provided by Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). For the three operators that launched their online casinos, slot revenue amounted to $517,712.

Final Standings

The same three casinos’ table games revenue…

…came to around $295,594 during this period. It was SugarHouse Casino, operated by Rush Street, that came out on top, as their contribution ed to more than half of the entire revenue – $442,796. In this casino, customer wagered online $10.1m on slots (the revenue in this vertical was $261,869) From total stakes of $5.8m, table games contributed with $160,927.

The runner-up was Parx Casino with a total revenue of $260,124. $10 million was wagered on slots with revenue ending up at only $139,903. Even bigger spending on table games ($19.3m) resulted in even smaller revenue ($120,221).

The third online casino, belonging to Penn National, gathered $117,284 in revenue from only $4.1 million in stakes. Out of that, $115,940 was on slots and only $13,446 on table games.

Taxation and Sportsbooks Breaking Records

Pennsylvania’s tax revenue on iGaming for the first 16 days of its history ended up as follows: slots’ 34% tax generated $176,022 with $67,303 from 13% country grants tax. Table games are taxed at a rate of 14% and they contributed with $41,243.

Also, in July, PA operators noted a record-breaking sports betting handle of $59.3 million, $39 million of which was online. This is the first time online sportsbooks sured retail figures and the amount of handle breaks the previous record for the month of June and $46.3 million.

Betting revenue in this state amounted to $5.1 million and paid $969,727 in taxes.

Online gambling contributed to the entire market with $2.9 million of total revenue, even though only four operators launched online services.

SugarHouse, which was the first to launch online sports betting in May in PA…

…also led the way with $26.5 million in amounts wagered and with $540,766 in bonuses. Of course, as other casinos hopped on the market in mid-July, SugarHouse’s online wagering state share dropped from 94% to 56.8%.

Rivers Casino came second with a $14.3 million handle and a revenue of $1.2 million, with total of $9.9 million spent online. Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Parx Casino was third. Their revenue was $751,129 from $7.2 million in stakes. They generated more from their retail sportsbooks than online.

What About Fantasy Sports?

PA’s fantasy sports market saw its revenue grow 42%, from July 2018’s $878,185 to $1.2 million this year.

Leading the market in this segment was DraftKings. Their revenue was $681,932, which is 56% up year-on-year. FanDuel, operated by Flutter Entertainment, followed with $543,810.
