Disney acquired Marvel Comics in 2009 for $4.4 billion. The reputation of Disney is not suited for the promotion of gambling – at least in their opinion. As a result, the company announced that all slot licensing contracts would not be renewed. It’s taken years, but Playtech’s Marvel contract is nearly up and as the last provider offering this brand of games, it’s time for us to say goodbye.
Cryptologic was the first to go. Playtech, with several years remaining on its contract, continued to deliver Marvel slots and jackpots, but all good things must come to an end. The inevitable is happening on March 31, 2017. All of the branded games will be taken down including associated marketing materials at casinos in all jurisdictions.
If you’re a fan of these games, we encourage you to take your last spins before the end of the month. Among the games to be pulled are The Avengers, Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic 4, Ghost Rider and Thor.
DC Comics Carries the Torch
As we wave goodbye to Marvel, we can say hello to DC Comics. In February 2017, Playtech announced a multi-year DC branded games content deal in partnership with Warner Bros.
Based on the feature films, the first round of games will be inspired by “iconic characters and moments from the fan-favourite Batman Classic TV Series, offering exciting games and pair-ups in Batman & The Joker Jewels, Batman & Catwoman Cash, Batman & The Penguin Prize, Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza, Batman & The Riddler Riches, and Batman & Mr. Freeze Fortune. In addition, Playtech has also launched slot games inspired by the hit films Man of Steel (2013), Green Lantern (2011), Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), according to Playtech news.
