Online poker cardroom owned by The Stars Group that can be accessed through able clients, PokerStars, has officially entered the market in Pennsylvania.
The state has launched online poker games and introduced its first poker operator on Monday, November 4th as part of the territory’s 2017 law that expands gambling opportunities within its borders.
Following two days of test by the supervisors and state regulators, PokerStars went live with peer-to-peer games, allowing players to compete online. The operator will provide access to tournaments, promotions and card games in partnership with two casino brands from Pennsylvania, Mount Airy and FOX Bet.
Matt Primeaux, president of the sports betting platform said:
“We’re excited to launch PokerStars as the first and currently the only online poker option available to players in Pennsylvania.”
Based on the financial reports from New Jersey, poker generates less revenue for casinos and taxing authorities than other games of luck, mainly video slots and table games. In spite of the fact that interactive online gambling has been approved five years ago in this territory, P2P poker generated barely $1.6 million last September.
This amount represents 4% of the overall internet gaming win of $41.1 million, while other financial statistics state a decline in online poker revenues from $26.5 million in 2016 to $21.4 million in 2018.
Pennsylvania legalized poker under the 2017 law along with sports betting, online lottery, video gaming terminals in truck stops and satellite casinos. The license comes to a higher price of $10 million but it enables all operators to offer slots, card games and poker as well.
Among the first operators to provide poker gambling options in the state are FOX Bet and Mount Airy Casino Resort in Pocono, a sportsbook and Pennsylvania’s AAA Four Diamond Award winner.
For ing the sportsbook during a promotional period, players can claim a range of incentives and bonuses related to PokerStars, including welcome freerolls and other related promotions.
PokerStars ambassador Jennifer Shahade comments:
“Finally, PokerStars is available in my hometown and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Shahade. “Players in Pennsylvania have been looking forward to this day, and I can’t wait to be a part of all the action. Hope to see many of you on the tables!”
Over at Mount Airy Casino Resort, general manager and COO, Todd Greenberg is excited about the launch, stating the following:
“We’re constantly investing in our player experience. In 2019 that means going beyond brick and mortar improvements to bringing customers to one of the most exciting gaming options available. Through strategic partnerships like our affiliation with PokerStars, Mount Airy is committed to offering the most cutting-edge gaming experience possible.”
Apart from the big news and access to online poker cardrooms, players at PokerStars can also engage in other in-house and third-party award-winning titles, including slots, blackjack, roulette and more.
Bettors wagering on American and international sports can get a piece of the action on FOX Bet. The operator covers all major leagues such as NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NCAAM, MLB, PGA, NHL, Soccer, MLS as well as the World Series of Boxing and more.
