RGA To Announce New Advertising Restrictions

RGA To Announce New Advertising Restrictions

of the Remote Gambling Association and UK’s major operators, Bet365, Betfred, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and William Hill have started the discussions about a new advertising code – primarily regarding ads during live matches on Sky.

The board usually meets up once a year to discuss any modifications, but due to the complexity of the issue, it is anticipated that the meeting about reductions will have a higher priority in comparison to other industry changes.

One Gambling Ad Per Commercial Break

From the start of the next Premier League season, only a single gambling ment will be allowed, Sky reports. In addition, “in-play” promotions will be prohibited during live broadcasts, but the board is still discussing the prospect of such a scenario.

In fact, Sky is even developing AdSmart Technology, that will allow customers to block gambling ads on the network including Virgin media TV… however, this commodity will be available from June 2020.

Ladbrokes And Coral Compliant

There has been a major disturbance in the country lately, regarding fixed-odds betting terminals, and it was only a week since the UK government decided to curb the “highly addictive” slot machines. It is predicted that further strengthening of regulations across Great Britain will continue in the following period…

Therefore, the parent company of Ladbrokes and Coral, GVC Holding plc, is one of the first operators to step up and publicly declare towards banning gambling ads, especially around football.

Sarah Hanratty, Senet Group CEO, said about the development:

“It will address the unease that many feel at the volume and density of gambling advertising, and its potential impact on young people.”

“We encourage the industry, broadcasters and government to bring this to a speedy resolution,” she continued.

To sum it up, industry analysts are expecting the RGA meeting to deliver a consensus on advertising, even though some of its 35 have called on “introducing a voluntary advertising code, aware that the industry is in a fight to save its damaged reputation following turbulent 2018 proceedings.”

The new protocol and the adjustment of current advertising codes is likely to begin in 2019, so stay tuned!
