Pickleball is a combination of tennis, bton and ping pong. It took the country by storm, becoming one of the most popular racquet sports in the States, boasting more than three million players. That number has been growing by more than 10 percent each year over the past decade.
This sport is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes, both indoors or outdoors on a bton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.
Pickleball has a very interesting name, especially since no is used. s of how the name originated differ.
The tail behind the game’s origin is quite interesting. It has nothing to do with pickles and everything to do with one boring afternoon in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
In the summer of 1965, three dads invented this game with no clue that it will become a popular sport. They just wanted to keep their children entertained by setting up a bton match for their families. The problem was that no one could find the shuttlecock.
By lowering the bton net, fabricating paddles of plywood from a nearby shed and improvising with a Wiffle ball, they unintentionally created a sport that is now favorite entertainment for many.
Nowadays, at last count, there is a total of 3.1 million pickleball players in the US, with 20,933 courts to choose from throughout the 50 states, and growing participation overseas.
