According to the words of Spectacle vice president, and general counsel, John Keeler, the company has an open way to secure about $400 million for casino financing.
Spectacle Entertainment has already been ready to decide on Gary casino financing in this past August. However, the company has dropped the idea due to multiple reasons involving potential competition around Chicago and Cook County in Illinois.
On this occasion, Keeler mentioned:
“Our lenders were naturally skittish. They just took a little more time to get it all put together.”
Keller also noticed that financing cancellation from August to December could lead to the new deadline for casino opening – early 2021 instead of Dec.31, 2020. Despite possible delays, Majestic Star venues will stay in operation all the time before the opening of the new casino. One month before the launch of the new venue, the casino at Gary’s Buffington Harbor location will be closed. The new venue will enable s to enjoy 225,000 square foot gaming space, sportsbook, Hard Rock Cafe, Hard Rock Live performance venue with 2000 seats and multiple restaurants and bars.
Keeler added:
“Our hope is still to be open on New Year’s Eve of next year. Realistically, that may be a goal that’s too ambitious. A lot of it is going to depend on the weather.”
Keeler concluded:
“We’ve already started moving dirt up there and we’ll be closing on all the real estate that we’ve got under contract. We just want to build the best casino we can, and we think the Hard Rock brand really helps us and helps us compete in the existing competitive situation, and will help us in the event that Chicago gets a casino.”
Meanwhile, the Indiana Gaming Commission is still considering an opening of Rocksino in Terre Haute, which takes advantage of the gaming license granted to Gary.
