Sports Betting Coming to Ohio

Sports Betting Coming to Ohio

Sports betting has taken the United States by storm. One state after another is legalizing this form of gambling which is becoming accessible to the growing number of people. One of the states expected to do this in the near future is Ohio.

Governor-elect Mike DeWine confirmed that Ohio is ready to welcome sports betting…

…but the exact date on when that should happen has not be specified.

According to Mr. DeWine, one of the most essential things is formulating proper regulations. The authorities have already initiated the process, but the first steps aren’t as promising and it could take longer than expected.

Whether People Wanted or Not

Mr. DeWine came up with the announcement for News 5: “It’s coming to Ohio whether people want it or not.”

He also added: “We need to be there to do it right, the right way. I’m not a big fan of betting but it is a reality and Ohio voters have made that decision with the casinos and other things throughout the years and so it’s here.”

“I think it’s important for Ohio to do it right and so I will work with the state legislature when I’m governor to make sure this is done right, make sure that we can control it, make sure that we can regulate it,” finished De Wine.

Illegal Gambling is an Issue

One of the big problems both federal and state authorities and regulatory bodies are facing is illegal gambling. American Gaming Association claims that…

…under the table, US citizens wager approximately $150 billion each year!

Nevertheless, the gaming industry has a major impact on the economy of the country and regulating as many processes as possible would be beneficial for everyone.

DeWine reacted to the Association claims saying that people are eager when it came to gambling. He confirmed that sports betting existed despite the restrictions and that it was important for every side to fix this issue in days to come.

Furthermore, he declared that people would have the opportunity to do it [bet] on their apps.

Federal Scrutiny

As sports betting legalization is gaining momentum…

the arguments in the Congress are becoming more heated!

One US senator advocates federal scrutiny but not everyone agrees with him. Whether these radical suggestions are to take place remains to be seen…

…but at this moment, putting sports wagering “within law frames” is up to individual states.

In Full Swing

Other states are expected to in near future besides Ohio. Since May, when the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA, states have started with the legalization of this form of gambling.

Some have already completed it such as New Jersey and they are reaping the benefits /new-jersey-sports-betting-reaches-500m/ of their efforts.

Among other states that initiated or finished the legalization, there are Pennsylvania, Rhode Island Delaware, New Mexico, Mississippi, etc.

It is just the matter of time when all US states would be affected by legislative measures. Drafting a nation-wide legalization of sports gambling would significantly reduce the volume of illegal bets accepted by unlicensed bookmakers, with a major positive impact on state budget and economy.
