Poland has been working on sports betting and casino legalization for a while. The serious efforts have started to pay off and the country has already made solid results over the previous years. Poland continues in the same way and marks a 29% turnover increase in sports betting operations.
According to the recent report from Graj Legalnie (Play Legally), licensed bookmakers in Poland have generated a turnover of PLN6.7b (US$1.75b) in 2019. If we compare the result with 2018 figures when the country recorded PLN5.2b turnover, we can see an overall increase of 29%.
The Polish sports gambling sector continues to advance and deliver positive results. The gambling industry in the country has recorded a rapid increase over the previous years. Only in 2017, the local gambling sector marked an increase of 100% while 2018 came with 53% growth. Even the past year couldn’t be finished without a significant rise in the sports betting sector which gives the country a promising future. At the moment, there are 17 licensed betting operators throughout the country.
Poland is famous for leading sports betting provider STS, with president Mateusz Juroszek. STS president is also the head of the Play Legally platform. Juroszek has recently announced that a lion’s share of the local betting market belongs to STS (45.4%), followed by Fortune Entertainment Group (31.3%) and forBet which holds third place with a 6% share.
According to the estimation of Play Legally, local market share kept by international online gambling providers which supply Polish gamblers with gaming content reached 60% in 2019. This result comes after a 12% tax obligation was introduced on the turnover of the local operators.
It is estimated that licensed bookmakers in Poland paid about PLN806m to the government last year. If we take a look at unauthorized online gambling providers, we can see that the overall number of blacklisted operators reached 8,308 until December 12. Compared to the same time last year, Poland has about 3500 more blacklisted operators, though the number could be even higher if we take into consideration international providers which redirect s to unblocked domains. Play Legally seeks from the government to introduce strict measures that will force betting operators to comply with the blocking of unauthorized sites.
Meanwhile, the Lvbet operator saw tremendous success in October 2019, recording the highest number of visitations. It is estimated that 2.27m s made 8.9m page views on the Lvbet.pl. At the same time, eFortuna.pl marked 24.6m page views from only 906k customers, while STS.pl reached 30.5m page views from 896k players. Regarding international unlicensed operators in Poland, Unibet.com has the highest rates with 747k s and 1.55m page views.
