Sports Betting is a Go at New Jersey's Meadowlands

Following the formal legalization of first wagers by the state’s Governor, it appears that Meadowlands Racetrack will be accepting sports wagers from July 15th. This was announced by Jeff Gural, northern New Jersey’s track’s manager, in a statement given to Associated Press.

This comes as great news to inhabitants of New York, whose government has itted that chances of sports betting being adopted this year in this state are slim – mainly due to the lack of time to do so. Meadowlands is in relative vicinity to New York, so many New Yorkers will be able to get in on the action while the going is good. Gural went on to say: “New York did me such a favor by not ing sports betting. That leaves me the entirety of New York City, Long Island, Westchester County. There are 15 million people that live within 20 miles of the Meadowlands. They gave me a tremendous gift.”

Gural is also the owner of New York’s Tioga Downs racetrack, so the postponed sports betting regulation in that state will keep his property waiting for revitalization. No wonder he’s overjoyed that at least the racetrack will be making good business in the meantime.

Meadowlands will be partnering up with US subsidiary of sportsbook giant, Paddy Power Betfair, who will help make the controversial pastime a reality on July 15th. As ESPN reports, racetracks in the state have been receiving around $30 million per year collected from Atlantic City casinos.

Meadowlands will become New Jersey’s forth venue to offer betting on sports after the newly opened Atlantic City Ocean Resort Casino opens its doors on June 28th.
