Double Bonus Poker‘ and we’ll continue with our discussion of the ‘bonus family’ with sort of an ‘odd duck’ out of the bunch. Bonus Poker Deluxe technically fits the description of the other games of the genre in that it gives a ‘bonus’ for four of a kind hands. Unlike the previous two games which give different bonus payouts for 4 of a kind hands made with various denominations Bonus Poker Deluxe is more ‘all or nothing’.

The basic premise of all of the ‘Bonus Poker‘ variations is that a player receives a ‘bonus‘ for certain four of a kind draws. On Bonus Poker Deluxe, all four of a kind hands are worth 400 coins with max bet. That’s nearly four times what they pay on a Jacks or Better machine and if you’re a quarter player that’s a cool $100. As you’ve probably figured out by now the higher bonus for four of a kind hands means that the lower hands pay less than on a ‘full pay‘ Jacks or Better machine. Using the 9/6 paytable reproduced below this game will return 99.6% with perfect play.

Since there’s no advantage for a four of a kind hand in a specific denomination that makes strategy much simpler. With the low paying ‘minor‘ hands and the huge four of a kind payout its obvious that the strategy is to go after the quads hard. In my personal experience, there is little ‘middle ground‘ with Bonus Poker Deluxe. If you’re hitting 4 of a kind’s it’s a great game but if you’re not it can be anguishing.

FINAL NOTE ABOUT STRATEGY

One of the most difficult hands to play in Bonus Poker Deluxe will be two pair. Some strategy guides suggest that you hold all two pair hands. Others suggest that you break up two pair that includes a high pair since both Jacks or Better and Two Pair pays the same. Since the name of the game is to go after 4 of a Kinds that’s a logical move. The math, on the other hand, says that there’s a fractional advantage to playing the other way and holding all two pair hands.
