Virginia Looks For Casino Partner; Waiting for Legalization

The state of Virginia hasn’t approved the legalization of gambling, but several cities are already looking to secure place for casino venue. One of the interested candidates, Hard Rock International, is looking to launch a casino site in Bristol while the City of Danville has opened a dedicated platform for gambling operators that need to express their interest in the casino construction.

Preparations

The city of Danville has issued a request for proposal (RFP) from enterprises who are interested in building a casino complex in Danville. The results will allow the city officials to have a clear idea about the value of the facility, its location, and the best possible partner. Several Virginia cities have already expressed interest in casino construction, but local lawmakers are still to decide on the number of future licenses. Despite ing the legislation, local officials should bring a final decision during the next session.

As we already mentioned, Request for proposal (RFP) will the city while making a casino-related decision. City Manager Ken Larking observed:

“We anticipate multiple companies will be interested. As they compete to do the business here, we will be evaluating several criteria, including their experience, the number of jobs their project would create, and other amenities it would include.”

Each company interested in casino construction should submit a maximum of two proposals. One of them should be in compliance with RFP, which determines two possible casino sites – either the White Mill or Schoolfield. Both of them are held by Danville’s Industrial Development Agency.

According to the words of City Manager Ken Larking, local officials are responsible that future casino meets s’ expectations and goals. He added:

“Being able to answer the question ‘how’ this new business activity will be implemented goes hand in glove with the overriding question of ‘will’ this new business activity be allowed in the city; which the voters will decide.”
