Winter Meeting of Legislators to Host Record Number of Attendees

We have already reported on the scheduled Winter Meeting of the National Council of Legislators, due to be held in New Orleans from January 4th until January 6th – the key topic for this year’s discussion will be Indian Tribes’ casinos and their adaptation to the changing legislative and commercial environment in US sports betting.

The registration for the NCLGS Winter Meeting is still open to the public online. Reports suggest that this will be the most visited meeting in history, with a record number of 42 legislators from 18 states attending the three-day conference and discussion – in total, there will be over 200 individual attendees.

Record After Record

NCLGS president and Ohio Senator, William P. Coley II, has reminded the public that the all-time attendance record has been set at the past conference this summer, so to see it already broken is an amazing achievement.

“I am happy to see that we already have even more legislators confirmed to attend our Winter Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. These are the legislators who will be determining gaming policy in their respective states throughout the country, and we invite everyone who is interested in great public policy to us in New Orleans.”

NCLGS is the only organized event that gathers state lawmakers together with the purpose of discussing legal and commercial issues relating to a broad spectrum of gaming facets in the US…

…Attendees serve as of state legislative committees that regulate gaming in their respective states. Their work is not to either promote or oppose gambling but to merely provide a regulatory framework for the industry as well as estimate the social and economic impacts it may have.

The official organizer and executive director of NCLGS is Spectrum Gaming Group.

Much to be Discussed

The agenda for the conference will include these topics:

  • Keynote Luncheon Address from former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, whose arguments before the Supreme Court resulted in overturning the federal prohibition on sports betting
  • Six legislative committee sessions: Casinos, Emerging Forms of Gaming, Lotteries, Pari-Mutuels, Sports Betting/iGaming, and State-Federal Relations
  • The Big Picture: Focus on Freshman Class of Legislators – an introduction to gaming
  • Two Masterclasses presented by the International Masters of Gaming Law
  • Thursday evening and Friday evening welcome receptions
  • Saturday afternoon back-of-house tours of Harrah’s New Orleans
  • Sunday general session focusing on the relationship between gaming and tourism

Part of the conference is reserved for the former Republican Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, who be addressing the attendees.
