The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership has accepted Wynn Las Vegas as its newest member, making the resort nation’s largest hotel industry partner to the collective.
Getting recognized for innovation, production and use of green energy in the United States comes only after five months, which coincides with the amount of time when Wynn Solar Facility started generating renewable energy to power its Las Vegas casino.
Now under the ownership of one of Nevada’s leading gambling corporations, this 160-acre solar complex represents the most sophisticated facility of its kind in the world, and it costed around $40 million to develop.
According to U.S. EPA, the resort is now creating (and using) approximately 45 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power per year, mostly thanks to 103,000 square feet of on-site rooftop solar s. The amount of energy that is produced, covers but a bitsy 25 percent of the entire electric load, which equals to the annual consumption of more than 4,000 average American homes…
That being said, Wynn Las Vegas is miles ahead every Green Power Partner in the hotel industry, and currently, the only resort in the Silver State on that list. Additionally, the complex recently became part of an elite group of Fortune 500 companies. Among its most respectable are also Microsoft, Intel, Bank of America and Apple.
Erik Hansen, chief sustainability officer at Wynn, said:
“We are proud to be the national leader in green energy use in the hotel industry, proving that integrating large-scale energy efficient measures can be done in a way that only enhances the guest experience.”
Another important aspect of creating and sourcing renewable energy within the state’s borders is also the ownership of LEED Gold Building Certification, a standard for projects with sustainable design practices. This applies to Encore Boston Harbor as well, which is currently under construction in Massachusetts.
In the end, it is also very important to mention that The Partnership counts around 1,500 that are voluntarily using ca. 53 billion kilowatt-hours of green energy per year. However, among the signatories aren’t just listed huge corporations but also small and medium-sized businesses, local, state and even federal governments! Since its foundation on April 28, 2005 Wynn Las Vegas has received more Forbes Travel Guide Five Star Awards than any other independent hotel company in the world. In February 2018, after being accused of decades-long sexual bedevilment, Steve Wynn, casino mogul and owner of the business stepped down as CEO. The board of directors appointed Phil Satre as next chairman in August this year.
