The latest study released by the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA) revealed the scale in which this country’s gaming industry has affected and continues to affect Canadian society from an economic standpoint.
The study called, ‘National Economic Benefits of the Canadian Gaming Industry,’ suggests that gaming wins in 2017 amounted to $17.1 billion, with $1 billion in non-gaming revenue. The industry ed 182,500 jobs and produced an average salary of $65,000.
The report shows that…
…the direct impact on the economy exceeds other segments, sizeably, with gaming revenues suring those of combined social establishments.
Paul Burns, president and CEO of CGA, explains:
“Gaming in Canada continues to grow and is an important employer and provider of meaningful returns to the Canadian economy, balanced with socially responsible measures. The size and scope of the industry have created a positive economic environment, where many of the goods and services needed to sustain operations are now produced and/or offered in Canada, and a number of Canadian companies are exporting gaming-related products and services internationally.”
A particular feat that is held in high regard by CGA is that the gaming industry is present in almost every region and contributes vitally to the benefit of local communities.
Gateway Casinos, for instance, has 27 gaming facilities in three provinces. CEO, Tony Santo, remarks that last year they contributed over $1,000,000 to more than 1,500 organizations in Canada.
“We strongly believe in offering not just our resources, but also our time, our know-how and our properties in ing local efforts in the communities where we operate. We and encourage all of our employees to be actively involved in projects, causes and initiatives that aim to build stronger, healthier and more vibrant communities,” says Santo.
Burns added that crucial factors that contributed to this shift in the economic state in Canada…
…are technological innovations, a shift in public perception, consumer preferences for new products and the globalized, competitive market’s innovations.
“Gaming in Canada has been a success from an economic development, revenue, and employment perspective. Governments have profited from new tax revenues, local economies have profited from new companies, jobs have been created, and significant capital investment and economic activity have materialised.”
