Mississippi Approves Long Beach Harbor Resort Construction

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has unanimously decided to grant approval of the site in the Gulf Coast region for construction of this state’s future thirteenth casino – Long Beach Harbor Resort.

Last Wednesday’s motion by the official regulator concerns the town of Long Beach, former home of the Kmart Corporation. The as of yet unused twelve-acre of land on a seaside, located near Long Beach Yacht Club, will be under ownership of Long Beach Harbor Resorts LLC…

…the developer that was working diligently for two full years on completion of the approval process!

Evidence of Funding Still Needed

However…

…before the actual work can begin, the developer is still required to provide further evidence that it can fund the project until completed. According to reports by the Sun Herald, the Commission is asking for this as a way to ensure that the venue will, in fact, see the light of day.

The company with businessman, James Parrish, at its helm has envisioned the facility as a 40,000 square feet venue with a dining premises and a hotel with 300 rooms. Despite being in the general vicinity of Gulfport’s Island View Casino, only 3.5 miles away…

…the future owners are adamant that this particular property will clearly stand out from all others in this region of Mississippi.

Design is Still in the Works

Parrish has given a brief statement, saying:

“We’re delighted with the Mississippi Gaming Commission’s approval of the site as a legal gaming site. We look forward to moving to the next step, which is to secure funding for the project. We also look forward to working with the city of Long Beach on the architectural design of the project.”

Long Beach’s Mayor, George Bass, is excited about the prospect that a new casino brings to the city community and has said that the Commission’s approval is merely the first step “of many to come.” Design details for Long Beach Harbor Resort are still yet to be planned and approved by city’s architectural board.

Good Times For Land-Based Betting

Mississippi has been making a lot of headlines lately due to the fact that it is one of the US states that has acted in a rapid-quick manner and launched its own sports betting market last year.

Since its beginning in August, the state has seen its biggest share of sports betting revenue in December, with more than $6.2 million collected! NFL was the most popular sport (and source of income for casinos), with $15.3 million in money wagered, followed by basketball’s $7.3 million.

Sports wagering is only allowed in brick-and-mortar facilities in Mississippi, and with no online betting legislation in sight, the future Long Beach resort has a lot to look forward to.
