Growth in Video Lottery and Table Game Revenue

According to the Rhode Island Lottery, video lottery terminals (VLTs) were the primary driver of revenue growth, generating $42.1 million in January, an increase from the $39.3 million reported in the same month in 2024. Revenue from table games also saw a modest rise, reaching $11.8 million compared to $11.7 million in the prior year.

Bally’s Twin River Casino contributed the most to overall revenue, with its VLTs bringing in $31.5 million, while table games generated $9.7 million. Meanwhile, Bally’s Tiverton Casino reported VLT revenue of $10.6 million and table game earnings of $2 million.

Revenue from online casino operations in Rhode Island amounted to $3.1 million for January, reflecting a decline from the $3.6 million recorded in December. However, overall online betting activity increased, with total wagers rising from $97.2 million in December 2024 to $103.5 million in January. The total value of prizes also climbed from $93.5 million to $100.4 million over the same period.

Islots, a segment of online gaming, brought in $2.4 million in revenue last month, slightly down from the $2.5 million reported a year ago. Online table games (iTables) saw a steeper decline, generating $729,834 in revenue, compared to the $1.2 million earned in December.

Sports Betting Revenue Increases

Rhode Island’s sportsbooks generated more than $5 million in January, marking an increase from the $4.9 million recorded in the previous year. Total wagers for the month stood at $47.3 million, up from $44.8 million year-over-year. Payouts also rose, reaching $42.2 million compared to $39.8 million in January 2024.

Previous Records

The Rhode Island Lottery has announced a record-breaking performance for online casino gaming in October. Players wagered over $75.1 million on slots and table games, marking the second-highest total since the state’s iGaming launch through Bally’s in March. This comes just after September’s peak of $80.8 million.

October’s online casino revenue reached an unprecedented $3.2 million, suring the previous high set in September by 2.6%. Since online gambling began earlier this year, no year-over-year comparisons are available, but the October figures reflect strong growth for the burgeoning market.

Mixed Performance for Land-Based Casinos

Rhode Island’s two brick-and-mortar casinos—Bally’s Twin River and Bally’s Tiverton—showed varied outcomes in October. Revenue from video lottery terminals (VLTs) reached $41.4 million, a 3.6% increase from $39.9 million in September but a slight 2% decline from $42.2 million reported last October.

Twin River dominated VLT revenue, generating $31.5 million, or approximately 76% of the total.

Table games, however, experienced a downturn. October revenue totaled $9.9 million, representing a 12.2% drop from $11.2 million in September and a 3.2% year-over-year decline. Twin River contributed $7.8 million to this figure, while Tiverton ed for $2.1 million.

A report from the Rhode Island Office of the Auditor General sheds light on broader gambling trends within the state. For October, total iGaming revenue climbed to $124.5 million, a marginal increase from $124.3 million in fiscal 2023. However, Rhode Island’s overall gaming market has faced pressures due to growing competition in neighboring states.
