The official Spanish gambling regulator for the regulated online gambling market has published a selection of plans it will try to accomplish in the next three years.
The regulator, also known as Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), published a number of documents on its official website…
…where it talks about its future plans to focus on social responsibility.
The Spanish government has already approved the regulator’s plans, that will all hopefully be achieved by 2022.
As it is mentioned in the official announcement, the regulatory body will in the next three years focus heavily on four crucial areas of gambling in this state…
…in order to emphasize social responsibility.
First, DGOJ will work on the transformation of gambling to become safer for players in Spain. Also, it will licensed operators to introduce new products via all channels.
The third objective is establishing responsible gambling controls….
…while the third is to make sure it has a positive impact on Spanish society.
“Our commitment to society, public health and responsible gaming, as well as transparency and ability, includes the annual dissemination of the degree of compliance with the service commitments declared in this Letter through our institutional website www.ordenacionjuego.es,” Juan Espinosa said.
In order to turn these goals into reality, the regulator will actively work with licensed operators in the state…
…with an aim to establish new strategies on increasing responsible gaming and creating better communication with consumers.
The regulator also announced that it wants to make sure their reports ar more transparent to the public.
After the elections in April that brought the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) to power, it was expected that they would be opposed to gambling.
Broadcasters also stopped airing gambling ads, because it was expected that it would become law.
Although it still hasn’t happened, the DGOJ wants to scrutinize advertising in the future…
…which is why they asked licensed operators to innovate their ads and broaden them to more channels.
The Spanish online gambling market results for the first quarter of the year, issued at the beginning of June, are showing a significant rise comparing to the same period last year.
Numbers show that the market in this Iberian Peninsula country increased more than one-fifth during Q1 2019…
…even though the poker vertical shows a decline.
The results firther demonstrate that locally licensed online operators generated managed to see revenue of €193.2 million, which is a small 2.14% increase comparing to the revenue from Q4 2018.
But, at the same time, it is a 20.1% improvement comparing to the first quarter of 2018.
Even though the report shows some increases in the results, sequential growth in the Spanish online market has been slowing down in the past year.
Also, the growth in Q1 marks actually the lowest percentage gain since the 2.3% rise recorded in the second quarter of 2018.

Hope to see a better online gambling market in Spain, since betting on soccer is really dominant in this country.
