Stadium Casino's $150M Live! Casino Pittsburgh Project Greenlighted by PGCB

A unanimous vote by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has provided permission to The Cordish Companies division Stadium Casino to erect a casino in Westmoreland County that would belong in a category four of these facilities.

The project dubbed Live! Casino Pittsburgh – whose estimated worth will be $150 million – was presented during a public hearing held recently. Company representatives gave a thorough overview of the future venue.

Doors to be Opened in 2020

Among other amenities, the proposed facility will contain…

…the 100,000 square foot gaming, dining and entertainment space, 750 slots and electronic table games and circa 30 live dealer table games. Topping the wide array of offers will be nationally recognized restaurant and live entertainment halls.

No exact opening date is given, except for the notion that the grand opening should take place sometime next year. Live! Casino Pittsburgh will be a part of the 1.3 million square foot Westmoreland Mall which is also owned by The Cordish Companies principals.

A Project That Could Benefit All

Having a category four slot machine license means that…

…the facility will be operating between 300 and 750 slot machines. It will also be allowed to work up to 30 table games for which the operator needed to pay the $2.5 million fee – with an option to add ten more tables during the first year of operations.

The entire project, it is thought, could generate $188 million annually, along with $148 million from construction. There will be 960 construction jobs and around 500 permanent jobs created for local population.

Local businesses could benefit from the venture as well – the development of this resort will create opportunities for local vendor jobs and will generate a substantial for local charities and non-profit organizations.

Stadium Casino renewed their category two license for the $700 million Philadelphia’s Live! Casino and Hotel project, as well.

A Place For the Whole Region

Joe Wienberg, The Cordish Companies managing partner, comments on this undertaking:

“We’re very excited and honoured to have been awarded the license by the Gaming Control Board and thank them for their consideration. We look forward to working with state and local officials, and the entire community as we move forward with development of a true world-class destination that will attract people from throughout the region for a unique gaming and entertainment experience.”

Growing Market Demands Modern Solutions

The gaming scene in Pennsylvania is truly taking off, after several land-based casinos successfully tested their online casinos and launched them, signaling the dawn of new era of gambling in this state.

With expanded gambling taking over, the state officials have introduced a self-exclusion scheme that will assist those who wish to take a break from video gaming terminals.

Via several simple commands, players will be able to self-exclude themselves for a defined period of time – one year, five years or forever.

PGCB’s statement regarding this scheme states that…

...“a self-excluded person who has gambled on a VGT while on the self-exclusion list may not collect in any manner or any proceeding any winnings or recover any losses arising as a result of any gaming activity for the entire period that the person is on the self-exclusion list.”
